Well, you can't say Gate wasn't asking for it...he's been making our lives miserable all this time with his whole king-of-the-universe thing. Let's ruin it for him, shall we?!

The second half of stage 2 of Gate's Laboratory is much easier than the first half, believe it or not. At least...it's easier if you're playing as X and wearing the Blade Armor... There is actually a certain section in here that is literally impossible to get past if you're wearing the wrong armor and Parts. They really should have split this one up into two stages, if you ask me. This is the only fortress stage in a Mega Man game I know of to have two bosses, MMX6 has only three total fortress stages instead of the usual four, and making this a separate stage would all but alleviate the whole armor problem (you'd still have to kill yourself off, but at least you wouldn't have to redo the entire first half of the stage).

Now, the stage itself...interestingly, this part is completely different depending on which character you're using. Had I chosen Zero instead, I would be faced with another trash compactor area, bringing back an element from the Recycle Lab stage (although, I might add, a lot nastier). As X, however, I get another rainy area, reminiscient of the Inami Temple. There are two weather generators to destroy this time, but the recovery pads are single-use, there are a lot of bottomless pits around, and those annoying purple guard robots are back. It's really quite easy, though, and it shouldn't take long to reach Gate's boss door at the end.

So, this is the guy who's been creating all the Nightmares...what's he like to fight? Well, I'll admit that he's not as tedious as High Max, but this battle can drag on for quite a while (as you can see from the video length). Here, you are above a bottomless pit and must stay on one of a few small platforms to prevent falling. Gate himself flies around at intervals, almost always toward you...and he is completely immune to all of your attacks. The only way to hurt him is to turn his own projectiles back at him; he throws damaging orbs at you that, when destroyed, will split into six smaller orbs. If one of the small ones hits Gate, he takes damage. The orbs themselves do different things depending on their color; red ones slow you down and disable some of your moves randomly, blue ones suck you toward them, green ones slowly home in on you, orange ones fire orange energy bullets, and purple ones spawn Nightmares. The red and blue ones are the worst; you want to destroy them as soon as possible. Fortunately, Gate never throws more than one red or blue one at a time, whereas he can throw up to three of any of the other colors. I find the Magma Blade to work well for destroying the orbs, but if you run out of energy for that, the Blade Armor's saber or the Yammar Option would be the next best things. After about half his health is gone, he gains an attack where he creates a large pink oval that temporarily destroys any platforms it hits. Said platforms do come back, though, and if you happen to be occupying the space where they are when they do so, you get crushed.

After you beat Gate, with his dying breaths, he reintroduces you to a certain old foe...uh-oh...THIS can't be good...
