Game: Donkey Kong
System: Arcade
Version: (Japan Set 3)

This is the longplay of Donkey Kong, an action and platform game produced and distributed by Nintendo, originally released in 1981 for Arcades and soon after for home consoles.

The objective of the game is to cross a scenario under construction, dodge barrels thrown by a gorilla called Donkey Kong and traps. The hero's objective is to save a damsel in distress, called Lady (also known as Pauline) and for that, the character needs to climb to the top of the scenario. In the game, we control the character Jumpman (who would later be known as Mario), who can jump to avoid obstacles, in addition to also picking up a sledgehammer to destroy them. Caution is needed when jumping, as the character can die if jumping from too high. In addition, the game also features bonus items to add up to points, such as hats, umbrellas, and purses (presumably belonging to the Lady/Pauline).

Donkey Kong was the latest in a series of efforts by Nintendo to break into the North American gaming market. Hiroshi Yamauchi, Nintendo's president at the time, delegated the project to a budding game designer: Shigeru Miyamoto. Drawing on a wide range of inspirations, including Popeye and King Kong, Miyamoto developed the setting and designed the game in conjunction with Nintendo's chief engineer, Gunpei Yokoi. The two broke new ground in the gaming world by using graphics as a means of characterization, including cutscenes to advance the game's plot, and integrating multiple levels into the gameplay.

The game was a huge success worldwide. In a short time, the hero and the monkey later became two of Nintendo's most popular characters, which began to receive licensed products, in addition to ports of the game for other consoles. Nintendo was even sued in court by Universal City Studios, which claimed that Donkey Kong had violated King Kong's copyright, but Universal was ultimately defeated due to the company's defense, which claimed that Donkey Kong and King Kong had nothing in common. common. The success of Donkey Kong and Nintendo's courtroom victory helped position the company to dominate the video game market in the 1980s and early 1990s. The video was recorded using the Japanese version, which includes an extra level. The game has no ending, repeating the stages when you finish them (games with complex endings and narratives would only appear years later). I passed the levels 5 times and then lost all lives to end the video. Hope you like it.
