Now, if memory serves, the extremely poor performance made all the worse by the complexity of the Big G prompted me to finally take a break. Continued exposure to a problem can often have a focusing effect, but there's a logical diminishing return on that... and eventually you get total breakdown in any manner of efficacy of extra efforts thereafter.

Honestly, I'm surprised it took even that long, but I think I have some kind of weird tolerance for repetitive action... well, up to a point... because there's always a limit, and when that gets reached... whoo... yeah... let's not do that again. Listen to the health and safety advice, kids! (If not because of the "health" and/or "safety" thing, but because you'll only start defeating yourself!)

So rejoining the efforts, instead of stupid moves made overly eagerly, we get a lot of hesitant moves and a reduced capacity for prediction of what will happen when I make particular drops. Oh, and it also goes without saying that my ability to read the proper spacing for the UFO's body hasn't improved, but that could've happened any time... except maybe immediately after having finished the single-iteration variant of this puzzle, and that was 26 puzzles ago.

In particular, I had a lot of trouble trying to put two and two together and actually intentionally checker the lower layer... which I guess is still preferable to the alternative of NOT wanting any checkering and inflicting it upon yourself anyway... so I guess I lucked out? It's much easier to fix unintentional non-checkering than is the opposite proposition. I've never been so glad to have a flying saucer all full of holes!
