MaG48HMML - Running Down a Drain Normal Speedrun 2:09.629
Fun fact: it looks like this stage's music, an 8-bit remix of Runnin' Down a Dream by Tom Petty, triggers a copyright claim. I'll have to keep that in mind if I ever come back to this stage. Probably replace it with something else, if I can.
Most of this stage can be cheesed with Flame Mixer. Just keep it held and run through enemies. That said, because there's so much Flame Mixer use, you should probably keep an eye on how much weapon energy you have. Also, sometimes things just get past the shield and you can't really do anything about it.
The main points in this stage to be wary of are the three Escaroo fights. If you move Flame Mixer around right, you can manage to get four hits in on the eyeballs before they get back to the body. This one cycles the midboss which means a whole lot less waiting. Figuring out how to one cycle each of them is pretty annoying and can be somewhat inconsistent depending on how you move Flame Mixer's fires around.
Bubble Man is a boss that can really get me for some reason. I'm so used to Mega Man 2's i-frames being so short that I end up whiffing Spark Shocks a lot. Certainly a fight that takes some practice. And I got the bad RNG here where he shoots a buster shot immediately and starts floating. If you're lucky, he'll throw the bubbles first before floating up. In the end though, it's not a huge loss.
This run beats the previous normal record, MystSvin's 2:29. I got the main parts down. Flame Mixer for most of the stage and one cycle every Escaroo. For improvements, there's that one part where a Jet Bomb managed to sneak past Flame Mixer. No idea how to deal with that, but there's gotta be a way. Also my Bubble Man fight probably could've been better. Lastly, in the room with a lot of ladders and a Jamacy on each one, I have to switch from Rain Flush to Rush Jet. I think the switching and summoning of Rush could've been faster. As you could see from my Weapon Wheel, I just needed to nudge my right stick in any direction, but I was still pretty slow on it. I'm not used to using the Weapon Wheel. Maybe eventually, but I definitely still prefer just mashing the L and R buttons.
