This is Max Payne 2 with EAX & OpenAL Soft HRTF [IRC_1037 tables] through DSOAL. I had been waiting to redo this video with DSOAL for a long time because I knew that ceiling collapsing scene in one of the last levels would sound amazing in 3D audio. Well, boy, was I sure wrong. It's nowhere near as good as the exploding restaurant demo I recorded for the first game. But hey, Max Payne 2 is nowhere near as good as the first game so it kinda fits. At least you get some nice elevation effects with Mona and the enemies on the second floor.
Just like in the first game, Max Payne 2 has strange positional audio where the listener position is attached to Max himself rather than the camera. It seems even more pronounced than in the first game, though that might be because of the higher quality sound effects and reverb. Speaking of reverb, Max Payne 2 unfortunately has glitched EAX 3 reverb. It's way too wet compared to a real X-Fi Titanium, even with boost=-12 set in the file to try and match hardware volume. You can hear this clearly at 4:50. I actually had to attenuate volume here by 3dB so it didn't make the rest of the video too quiet.
