Mycopunk - Trippy Co-Op FPS Game Coming Soon! First Session Playing The Demo!
Mycopunk is a game that is slated to come out soon, but has a playable Demo on Steam right now. It is being developed by Pigeons At Play, and published by (one of my absolute favorites!) Devolver Digital. You can find the Demo on Steam at: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3581750/Mycopunk_Demo/
You start by choosing one of four classes: Wrangler, Bruiser, Scrapper and Glider. Each character has their own abilities, like air dashing, healing, or using a jetpack. I tried the Wrangler, who has the ability to air dash, as well as a lasso that can pull enemies/objects towards the Player, or be used to launch yourself forward.
You can play solo (where other Players can join you), or you can join other Player's games in progress, up to a team of 4. I have only played one match so far, but it seems like your objective is to survive while completing tasks until you can eventually leave the mission via drop pod. Some of the tasks I saw were activating relays, turning keys at the same time as everyone else on the team, protecting a railgun as it charged up, and more.
The game flowed well, and the controls felt nice and responsive, and they were also pretty much set up like other FPS games. It didn't take long to get use to the gameplay, but I DO wish that the tutorials/tips were a bit more prominent. Not gonna lie, I was so lost when I first started playing it lol. I was too enamored by the trippy graphics, colors and enemies to really pay attention to my HUD, so I was just running around killing stuff without completing the objectives. But this can all be chalked up to as part of the learning process!
As you kill stuff and find "chests", you will get parts/components that can be used at the end of your run to unlock abilities and such for your weapons and gear. It seems like each ability is a certain amount of hexagons stuck together that form a shape, and you fit them onto a grid made out of hexagons to equip them onto that weapon/gear. You can see the example of this at 32:36 (which will be easier than me trying to describe it lol).
I haven't really played any Co-Op FPS games for a while, but I had fun jumping into this! The gameplay is chaotic, which I like, forcing you to constantly keep moving while trying to complete your tasks. I will definitely play it a bit more, and may post some more videos of the Demo, depending on how long it is/how much content is available. If you like hectic FPS Co-Op games, I would say give it a try!
