NES Games I Was Playing When I Was A Freshman | 1991 Edition
501991 was an interesting year in the world of video games. The NES was firmly in control of the hobby, but Sega was applying serious pressure with the Genesis. Nintendo, themselves, were hard at work on the Super Nintendo which would come out in November of 1990. I didn't get my Super Nintendo until September of 1991, which meant I had a ton of NES Games I was still playing when I was a Freshman in High School that year. Back in '91, we didn't have a ton of money so instead of buying games I often got to rent them from the grocery store where my mom was a florist. As such there were definite regular rentals for me. Bill Elliott's NASCAR Challenge was a regular rental as a racing fan. I remember I actually ran a full Daytona 500, and man, it was grueling! I also rented and played a ton of Tecmo Super Bowl and played as my Chicago Bears. Sure, we were already a number of years past the Super Bowl Shuffle, but the Bears were still a respectable team in the NFC Central. Boy, that was a LONG time ago!
While I was a huge Star Wars Fan, until I was an adult I never actually owned any of the NES Star Wars games. I rented Star Wars and the Empire Strikes Back all the time, and I do remember beating them. I also played a ton of the Simpsons NES Games. Yes, they were from Acclaim, but they were fun at the time.
One of the weird ones I loved was Blue Marlin, a sequel to The Black Bass. My family was always into fishing, and for me, it allowed me to fish without sitting for hours in a boat.
