8Hey friends! Guess who's back, back again? Squiggy's back, tell a friend!
Sorry about the impromptu hiatus, I again have no real good excuse for my absence here... I'm just not a very responsible person. I'm terrible at keeping a schedule or planning ahead or doing anything that might set up tomorrow as easier. It causes occasional problems, but I wouldn't trade the freedom for anything.That being said, I do feel guilty for keeping people waiting for their hacks or levels, so sorry to everyone that's been hanging around and waiting for their design to be shown.
Anyways, we're back at it with some more Mega Maker Showcase today, and we've got a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure level to check out! Not too shabby, eh? These are some of my favourite types of levels to make, so of course I love playing them too! There's just something special about being able to choose a challenge rather than being assigned one. Levels that are entirely linear miss out on that little bit of player agency that can make each playthrough unique. I think even if you've got no plans to do something along these lines with paths representing certain weapons, even a smaller diversion like a split path that leads to just a couple of unique screens can make a level feel so much bigger and more interesting than it is otherwise.
It wouldn't be a Squiggs video after a long hiatus if we didn't make a huge mistake, so this one is brought to you by forgetting to record a commentary track... yikes. Not my finest hour, hahah. I hate missing out on that first time reaction, but such is life friends. We are all fleeing headstrong into the abyss, my commentary track just beat us there. No point in crying over spilled level design commentary.
