Our third elite, Flint, has to be the most unfortunate type specialist of them all. Only two of his Pokemon are fire-types, with the other three having no relation to the typing at all (at least Drapion is a kind of a bug...). Again, I would argue some Grand Underground exclusives like Houndoom and Magmortar could've been added to his team, but they were consistent in staying true to the original Diamond/Pearl that didn't have them either.
The lead Rapidash runs a Wide Lens to increase the accuracy of two of its moves - Iron Tail and Hypnosis. Both are threatening Golem, Rapidash's sole type-dependent counter as we didn't bother to take any water-type Pokeon with us to the Elite Four. Floatzel and Drizzle!Pelipper can be seen as decent picks, but I found no room for them. If put to sleep, Golem may not always wake up on the 2nd turn, and if we're unlucky Iron Tail can kill us by then. The odds of Hypnosis and two Iron Tail all connecting are still rather low. Chesto/Lum Berry held by Golem are out of the question, as we do need a booster like Expert Belt to OHKO with Earthquake.
Because I want to preserve Golem's health, I sacrifice a Bronzong to set up Trick Room - a strategy I utilise for the third time in a row. Before dying to Rapidash's second Flame Wheel, Bronzong also sets Stealth Rock. It won't be necessary for Steelix, who lacks Sturdy, but it does help with breaking Infernape's Focus Sash.
As we want Trick Room's effect to wear off at specific time, Golem uses Protect before felling Rapidash. Medicham then switches in to OHKO Lopunny. Believe it or not, but Lopunny actually survives an unboosted High Jump Kick, after taking Stealth Rock damage to boot. An Expert Belt, or equivalent, is required.
Steelix must be Flint's true trump card. With Sheer Force and Life Orb, all four of its moves hit especially hard, including Iron Tail, which actually OHKO Medicham under Reflect/Aurora Veil (not used in this strategy). Medicham also can't even 2HKO with HJK. Steelix does have a weak defensive stat you can target, and a Specs!Kazam can take it out in a single Focus Blast. Trick Room should be gone by then if we don't want to suffer a humiliating defeat.
Drifbloom can be potentially annoying to deal with, especially if it Baton Passes Minimize evasion boosts to Infernape. Setting burn and then draining HP with Strength Sap can improve its longevity a lot, but it also lacks any sort of offence. Stealth Rock in tandem with Abomasnow's Blizzard is one of the ways to take it out quickly before it all goes awry.
Infernape is the only one left. It switches into Stealth Rock, breaking its Focus Sash, and debuffs its defences by using Close Combat against our full-health Sturdy!Golem. The outcome of this matchup is a bit predictable...
