Before I started my low level game in Awakening's Hard Mode, linked above, I seriously entertained the idea of doing such a run on the game's Lunatic difficulty before discovering what you see in this video, really.

The jump in difficulty is drastic. Frederick ends up being used way more often, and you do kinda need him too, and your other characters go from being able to easily cooperate on a KO to running away from enemies in order to survive. Units get either OHKO'd or doubled by the time you get to chapter 2, and it's only downhill from here as you struggle to level anybody up at all.

What you see in this recording is my clears of prologue and chapters 1 and 2, which offer something of interest in terms of the strategy used. As you can see, Chrom ends up being fed much of the experience since he's the character who can never be switched out and thus snowballing his levels is an obvious idea. With some early level-ups, he has good chances of almost soloing the chapter 1 enemies while standing on a fort, paired-up with Frederick of course. It is more interesting how the likes of Virion manage to get any experience at all in these chapters.

My treatment of Robin is a little odd. I go with an initial ban on Veteran, choosing not to use Robin entirely when not attacking from behind pair-up as a supporter. When Veteran can be unequipped, I allow her use. This may seem questionable as excessive level-ups with Veteran cause Robin to be switches out of the army almost instantly. The revised Hard Mode run does nothing to restrict Veteran for that very reason, and Robin remains my weakest unit there.

The real "fun" starts in chapter 2. Surviving the initial waves of enemies is hard as hell, with Chrom and Fred both pairing up with somebody on the side as only they can boast any capacity to fight back at all. There is a lot of fighting on the cliffs eventually (cavs like Sully can't end their turn on one, but Frederick can due to being a great knight), and the rest of the army has to stay back for fear of facing even a single enemy. Chrom then pairs up with Frederick to clear much of the north of the map, growing swole as a result, baiting the last two foes to be attacked by my supporting units.

According to the low level game ruleset, Frederick needs to be switched out in the next map, where Sumia and Kellam join. It's essentially a Chrom solo from here, with nobody else really standing a chance at seeing much action without getting in the way, and it's just not fun to play, and there's no real reason to call it a low level game either, it's more of a Lunatic Chrom solo with underwhelming support units who need to be hidden away from enemies.

So that's how that is.
