Resurrecting this run, halted just before the Elite Four portion of this game this September, to finally stop Cynthia once and for all.

BDSP have been praised for increasing the difficulty level and AI competence to an extent unprecedented by Pokemon standards, featuring well-picked team compositions whose moves, held items and abilities all serve a purpose. BDSP's version of the champion battle has quickly become notorious despite the game's relatively recent release. Not only is the opposition very capable this time, we are also 20-25 levels underlevelled, so the game is most definitely rigged against us. I intend to give the E4 trainers a thrashing as great as it is humanly possible because if they're not playing fair then why should I?

I show off my winning party when opening the party menu to switch for the first time, but only three of them appear in this battle. Alakazam may be bug-weak and a poor counter to Aaron on paper, but he strikes two of the foe's Pokemon super-effectively, seemingly OHKOing with ease (I never tried attacking them without the specs, but nobody else is attacking using special moves in this fight). Alakazam outspeeds lead Dustox (duh) and targets its weakest defensive stat with Psyshock.

Alakazam won't be outspeeding Heracross however, even though the former is Jolly nature with the highest possible speed stat for lv. 47 with no EV training, something that should give you an idea of how strong the opposition in the Elite Four is. This demands setup to secure the kill. Bronzong is switched in against Beautifly, exploiting its inability to OHKO with Bug Buzz before chipping or setting up with Quiver Dance to use Trick Room, a strategy Bronzong basically exists to carry out. I then choose Reflect over Stealth Rock. Technically, Bronzong needn't use either, though you may expect both to bring benefits to this fight.

Now with Trick Room, Alakazam does outspeed and OHKO Heracross, giving us instant salvation from a Guts Flame Orb attacker. On my first run, I had my own poisoned Guts Machamp but was disappointed in his performance in all battles but Lucian's (ironic, I know).

Vespiquen is the last mon to fall while Trick Room is active. Much like Beautifly, she dies to Golem's Rock Slide, no Stealth Rock damage necessary considering its 4x weakness to rock.

Drapion is naturally the toughest threat here, ground being its only weakness. A boosted Golem cannot quite secure a OHKO against it unless I hold a Liechi Berry instead of an Expert Belt and enter the E4 below max HP (something you can notice a certain other party member doing... an omen of wreckage to ensue), so I tank two Earthquakes from boss Drapion as I weaken it with Rock Slide before landing the finishing EQ of my own.

Oh yeah, Drapion technically isn't a bug-type? Couldn't they have used a Kricketune instead? You done messed up Aaron.

Next up: Bertha.
