Ultimate General: Gettysburg is a tactical-strategy game developed and published by Game-Labs in 2014 for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux. Similar to Sid Meier's Gettysburg, players can choose to play as the Union or Confederacy, can set the A.I.'s personality and difficulty, and fight a semi-randomized set of scenarios all based on the battle of Gettysburg. Each "campaign" starts with the same 1st day battle at McPherson's Ridge, but the game can go in wildly different ways afterwads depending on the sucess of the player or A.I., with several different battles becoming available after the scenario ends. Players are also given the ability to choose different strategies and battles, depending on how well everything turned out the day before. For example, holding both hills on day one allows the player to deploy troops further north on the map, while losing the hill forces the player to withdraw towards the town of Gettysburg. Unfortunately, the A.I. isn't always the most capable, and the game's balancing and unit statis effects can feel off sometimes, with some units feeling like they retreat too early, and other units lasting longer than it seems they should. Line of sight can also feel weird due to the artsyle of the game, though that's more of a nitpick than anything. The game did recieve a sequel, Ultimate General: Civil War, which is a much better game overall.
