Space Invaders Famicom / NES CRT TV Playthrough asmr
3Released 4/17/1985, Space Invaders for Famicom is a solid port of the classic arcade game from 1978. You play as a laser cannon defending Earth from waves of aliens and UFOs invading our airspace. After 8 waves, the gameplay starts to resemble Space Invaders Part II, so this is actually a two-for-one kind of game.
Why did one of the most popular games of all time not make it from the Famicom to the NES? The top level alien has a cross symbol hidden in its sprite (see Shorts). The same alien also comes in and flips over an upsidedown y (which looks like an x), perhaps suggesting DNA/gene manipulation. A sort of "ancient alien theorist" speculation on Taito's part also shows up in their port of Space Invaders to the Atari 800XE. This version has a swastika-type sprite as the top alien. So, apparently Taito wants to suggest Hitler and Christ are connected to alien space invaders?
Like many of the early Famicom games that never made it to the NES (for example, Devil World), I believe this game violated Nintendo of America's policy against religious statements in their video games. It is unfathomable why it would not have been ported to the NES as it undoubtedly would have sold very well. Quite a few of the early Famicom titles simply misunderstood the conservative Christian audience they would be selling to in the U.S. (looking at you Nuts & Milk).
I am considering a playthrough to be beating the High Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
