Released 5/10/1985, Ninja-kun: Majou no Bouken for Famicom is a port of the UPL arcade game done by Jaleco. Translated as Ninja-kid: Demon Castle Adventure, this game features a host of supernatural entities that have invaded a cursed castle. You must battle your way to the top of the mountains and castle to recover the stolen magical scrolls. You are armed with a shuriken, and you can stun enemies by jumping on them. Collecting three falling orbs will open a bonus stage.

Though not terrible (the music is pretty good for an early Famicom game), there are more things working against this game than for it. The flashing colors are seizure-inducing, the controls are highly unintuitive, and the gameplay tends to be repetitive. It's hard to say if this game never made it to the U.S. because it's kinda bad or because it involved religious themes. I lean toward the former explanation.

I am considering a playthrough to be beating the Hi Score. I played on an original NES with a Game Genie adapter (see Shorts) to allow for playing a Famicom cartridge. I am using a NES Advantage controller, RCA cables, and a Sharp X-Flat 27" CRT TV.
