Just another normal day on Patra’s stream. The casualness of it all is so good. She just waltzes in, undresses, starts washing you, and knocks everything over. Classic. Plus the nerd level of randomly breaking out a meme in the middle of ASMR that needs a giant paragraph referencing multiple seemingly unrelated works to explain is amazing. That plus the casual intimacy is a very broken statline.

1:31 Patra’s evening greeting, “konbanwanwan,” is derived from “konbanwa,” ‘good evening,’ and “wan-wan,” a dog’s bark, because you are her dog. (Patra’s character was originally meant to be a tsundere dominatrix, but since that’s just about the polar opposite of her actual personality, that fell apart in a matter of days, and now her referring to us as her “dogs” is one of the few relics that remain of those character settings.)
3:08 “Patori” is a noun version of the verb “patoru” (literally “to pato”), which itself is a verb version of the name “Patra” (direct transliteration: “Patora”). However, this term is not derived from Suou Patra, but instead from Patrasche, the titular dog from the 1872 English novel “A Dog of Flanders.” While only mildly popular in Britain and the US, and until the late 80s practically unknown in Belgium, the story is wildly popular in East Asia, especially Japan, to the extent that it has received several anime adaptations. A scene in one of these anime adaptations bears a striking resemblance to the game over scene in Shin Megami Tensei III, an extremely difficult game even by the standards of the always difficult Megami Tensei series. It is from this similarity that the meme term “to pato” was born, meaning to mess up or make a mistake, such as one that would get you killed playing Shin Megami Tensei III and therefore result in the game over scene resembling the scene in A Dog of Flanders involving Patrasche.
