Well this was an incredible pain to make, but I think it turned out quite well. On top of just being goddamn adorable, it’s another excellent showcasing of Alice’s remarkable talent for euphemisms. There were a bunch of moments in this where I had to do a double take, she’s so good. You can also learn a lot of onomatopoeia from watching this, including the ones that are just random references to specific characters, lol.

0:51 I wanted to keep the literal phrasing on this to preserve the fact that her phrasing it that way and saying it with that voice makes it sound really… interesting… but for the first one I wanted to put “voice” (even though she doesn’t) because she clarifies she means “voice” earlier, before I cut the clip, and it’s in the ticker thing at the bottom, too. (But if you read chat, you can still see a lot of people wondering wtf she means by that, lol.) She also says it later, of course, and I’m not really sure if “come out” makes that much sense to say about someone’s voice in English, but I wanted to try to convey as close to the precise amount of euphemism present in the original as possible. And to those of you who don’t know Alice very well, do be advised: She knows exactly what she’s doing.

20:09 Very silly pun here but I think it actually translates pretty well. What she says literally means “I ran out of breath,” but “to run out of breath” is also an idiom that means to receive support from someone influential. So I believe she’s referring both to her literally running out of breath and to the superchat from RYO (@ryo_nji_sanji on twitter), an often rather adult-oriented artist who Alice follows and who often draws her.
20:56 I figure it’s pretty obvious so I didn’t try to put it on-screen, but here she’s responding to the little cheering sticker superchat, which says “Do you best!”
22:06 Again, probably obvious, but she chose this because of the pachi-pachi applause sticker superchat.
22:34 I’m pretty sure what gets her laughing here is that chat starts referencing Japanese actor Nukumizu Yoichi, nicknamed “Nukkun.”
30:44 “a-i-u-e-o” is the usual Japanese order of vowel sounds, and Japanese is syllabic, so by saying “pa-pi-pu-pe-po,” she’s really saying every single one that starts with a “p” sound. In Japanese the normal way to say this is “pa line,” referring to the column/row of the Japanese syllabary containing pa through po, which of course is a rather roundabout way of putting it.
31:04 By “safe,” she doesn’t mean that “pofu” was going to hurt her, she means it in the baseball sense, like she was able to clear the challenge successfully without being made “out” by failing.
32:21 “Revenge” may seem like a strange word choice, but in Japanese that term can be used in a less severe-sounding sense to mean simply trying something you failed again.
