System Shock 2 was already one of the best and most immersive video games ever made, but by adding OpenAL capabilites to it with NewDark, it somehow got even better. The HRTF and EFX effects add a whole new level of immersion to this classic game. In the early decks, hearing those Hybrid footsteps shuffle around the corner and echoing throughout the ship is among the most terrifying experiences in video game history. The fact that audio of this extraordinary level can be obtained on any soundcard and not just vintage A3D cards on Win98 is mind-blowing. OpenAL Soft, much like System Shock 2 itself, is better than what we gamers deserve.

I can only hope Night Dive Studios is smart enough to implement this level of binaural audio in their System Shock remake...coming SOON™
