Ultimate Spider-Man - Gamecube - Intro & gameplay as Spider-Man & Venom includes Rhino fight
13The first fifty minutes of gameplay from the 2005, Treyarch developed Ultimate Spider-Man on Nintendo Gamecube, includes the Wolverine and Rhino boss battle. The game sees you swapping between Spider-Man & Venom as the story takes place and the in-game cutscene all have a wonderful comic book style. The game draws a lot of parallels with the superb SNES & Mega Drive Spider-Man game Maximum Carnage released in 1994.
Following the open world gameplay seen in the Spider-Man 2 film game Treyarch previously did. Ultimate Spider-Man turns to the comic book series of the same name for their next game. The cartoon looks works far better and the open world gameplay is further improved, while there isn't a huge amount to do in the city. Side mission are largely the same, collect tokens, win races and stop crimes as they happen. It's a lot of fun to sit back and just swing around the city.
Add to that the map design of New York for the era really is very good, with each section of the city having a unique feel and look to it. The story is very well told with some great cutscenes and voice acting, the mission structure for the main campaign keep the game fresh as the story unfolds. You swap between both Spider-Man and Venom as the story progressive with each of of the two characters playing very differently. Spider-Man is more about swing around the city. Where as Venom relies more on his jumping, running and lash attacks.
Overall this is one of the better games featuring the web crawler super heroes and we here at Randomised Gaming would say it was the best Spider-Man game of that console generation.
