Virtual Casino - SEGA Saturn - Intro & Gameplay from all games, Poker, Blackjack, Baccarat & more
A look at all the table, card and casino games in this North America and Japanese Saturn game which features Roulette, 7 Card Stud Poker, Baccarat, Blackjack and Slot Machines / Gambling Arcade. So none of the Randomised Gaming team are fans of these type of games in the real world, when real money is involved. Which is partly why it's also the first time we have featured such a game on the channel.
Still it's a genre we should at least cover when no real world money is at stake, other than the cost of buying a used copy of the game. There aren't that many casino games on the SEGA Saturn in fact you can likely count them on one hand. Virtual Casino is the only one to ever have received a release outside of Japan and even then only in North America. It's a mix of 3D and 2D graphics, along with some okay looking CGI rendered models for the bunny girls shown in the game. There is nothing really here to write home about, the visuals are very average in game even for an early Saturn title, they do the job and not much else and could be a lot better. The only plus is the game runs at 60fps in the 3D sections, but in this type of game is it really needed?
The game is designed to give that Las Vegas look and feel, but doesn't manage to pull it off that well Vegas Stakes on SNES pulled it off better and that was an official Nintendo game. There's some nice background music and the game supports up to two players, mode wise you have a story, single game and verses to pick from.
How do the games stack up? Roulette is a boring game of chance, where you can place up to ten tokens on various bets to try and win, you often lose more than you win. 7 Card Stud Poker is the most interesting game, but against the CPU the element of buffing is thrown out the window. Baccarat is a sort of guessing game, it's okay, but very random to win. Blackjack again is one of the better titles with the aim to get the highest hand without going bust. Slot Machine is what you expect, a game with a random win chance and as the worst game by far.
There should have been more included games like Craps, Texas hold 'em Poker and some other table games like pool. Overall it's an alright game, something to play on a sleepy evening, but yeah it's a very average title and unless any of the games interest you most people will ignore this one. It's more of a novelty for collectors being the fact it only got a English release in North America and was one of the few games Natsume did on Saturn.
