Kind of a so-so segment, but I'm not keen on rerunning the Snowfly Forest to get a better one.
This is one of the most infamous parts of Vagrant Story, for good reason. I'll add a section on the rules of the Snowfly Forest after I cover the other noteworthy parts of this video.
I get lost for a while trying to find the room in the lower left corner. While this is annoying, it's not the worst thing. The Snowfly Forest is a great place to rack two very important stats. Earth for your Edged weapon, and Air for your Piercing weapon.
At the beginning of the area you'll notice I put an Undine Jasper on my Slashy Nail. This is actually to hobble its damage, so I can get more opportunities to hit the Icthiouses and convert the weapon to Earth before Grissom. This isn't purely necessary, as he's secondarily weak to Physical, but this will give me a nice damage boost on him.
16:26 I fight the Earth Dragon. It might not be obvious, but I get incredibly lucky in this fight. The more he uses Tail Attack, the higher his Risk goes, and therefore the better my accuracy gets. This makes what can be an annoyingly drawn out fight go fairly quickly. This was essential here, since I screwed up and accidentally cast a Prostasia I didn't need, wasting 15 of my MP (i.e. 3 Heals).
21:35 It's important not to forget about the last Fire Elemental here. Nothing is more annoying than getting killed by him right before the save point.
24:27 From this chest I collect Invigorate, and my first Djinn Amber. Both of these will be essential throughout the rest of the run. My base agility is already starting to cause frequent accuracy woes, and Invigorate is one of the only ways to counter this. Djinn Ambers, meanwhile, are a massive upgrade to my Stormy Nail. The Sylphid Ring from this chest also grants me +15 Edged and +15 Air, making it all around excellent for my two primary weapons right now. All in all, this chest is a pretty huge upgrade for one that's not even hidden.
Snowfly Forest Rules:
When you go from one screen to the next, if the number of snowflies on the screen increases, it means you're going the right way. This can make it really easy to go straight through, if you're not trying to map complete.
There are three objectives you must do in order.
1. Earth Dragon
2. Midway Save Point
3. Grissom
In order to do the Snowfly Forest without consulting or drawing a map, you need to remember one simple rule. The Snowfly Forest is divided up into two halves. Snowfly A, and Snowfly B. Snowfly A is everything that's reachable before the midway save point. It's all a completely closed loop, and it cannot lead to any room in Snowfly B.
Once you reach Snowfly B, you can use the in-game map. Anywhere where it looks like a room in Snowfly B will lead back to a room in Snowfly A, it WILL. This is key. Snowfly B will never "unexpectedly" warp you to Snowfly A on a teleporting exit. If you do step into a Snowfly A room, you have loop back through the midway save area and start Snowfly B over. This is why I always prioritize mapping out Snowfly A entirely before beating the Earth Dragon. It will prevent me from making mistakes in Snowfly B, because it gives me protective "borders" to watch.
Almost all of the teleporting exits in the Snowfly Forest are bidirectional. It's actually the regular map paths that are sometimes one-directional and can't be doubled back on. This means if you go through an exit and get sent somewhere unexpected, you can backtrack right back.
