What If-yeah, this one doesn't have a title. Instead of Xavier, Vulcan is thrown into the M'kraan crystal during the downfall of the Shi'Ar empire, where he absorbs its power and becomes the Phoenix Force. He takes the Phoenix power other heroes possess, then uses it to vaporize Xavier and others he blames for everything, before then turning on the entirety of the Shi'Ar system. But he doesn't stop there, consuming multiple galaxies, and leaving quite a few Watchers out of work. Alex and Rachel somehow managed to escape to Earth right before the Shi'Ar were destroyed, and with the help of Cable and Scott, they return to the spaced island of Krakoa, where Vulcan is waiting for them. He nearly kills them, but the Phoenix force reacts negatively to him using it in hate, giving the heroes an opening to attack. Once he's weakened enough, Rachel telepathically speaks to Vulcan, telling him to let go of the force before it consumes him. They say he's already accomplished everything he's set out to do, and now he has to stop before it gets worse. And with the emotional support of his family, Vulcan banishes the Phoenix, at the cost of his life. But it turns out he's been absorbed into the Phoenix, where Jean Gray is waiting to help him recover. This was ok, kind of a more chill story than the last two, even given the astronomically high body count. It's just nice to see heroes being human and trying to help others on an emotional level. I'm not a fan of the panel structures, but I could read it just fine. Needless to say, I liked the last story with Vulcan better, but this is a fine read. Though what DOES an out-of-work Watcher do?
