What If Annihilation Reached Earth? Thanos is killed by Drax before he can save Galactus or Silver Surfer, who, in the process, triggers an explosion that kills all of them. Thus at the very end of the Civil War event, the events of Annihilation reach Earth, with Nova telling the heroes of all this. So the heroes call a truce and prepare for the incoming invasion. The first wave results in an immense amount of damage and casualties, but, with some help from the Inhumans, the planet manages to repel the invaders. But the incoming following wave is even greater and threatens to end everything. In desperation, the heroes plead with the Watcher, who, while he can't interfere, does introduce them to the Terminus device, which will very briefly open a portal that will draw everything in its vicinity through it. The Inhumans trick Annihilus towards the device on the moon, then everyone evacuates. All except for Nova, Steve, and Tony, who stay behind to defend the device while it powers up. The portal activates and draws Annihilus and his entire fleet through, before self-destructing and taking the heroes and entire moon with it, which forms a ring around the Earth. And thus can the remnants of heroes and humankind begin rebuilding. Not a lot of story, but the scope is immense, with a LOT crammed into each panel. To the point it's worth owning just to go back and see what else you might catch during multiple readthroughs! And it's nice to see, even to the end, Steve still holds to his ideals.
