Metroid on the NES is notable for two things. One: being a great game, and two: for "surprising" players by revealing, right at the end, that the game's protagonist, Samus Aran, is actually a woman.

There's a lot that could be said about the game "rewarding" the player by letting them see Samus in various states on undress, but we're going to leave that to one side for this video.

We're also not going to dwell on the fact that a female protagonist is so rare in gaming that the game's developers have had to publicly explain why they chose to make Samus a woman, rather than the standard default gritty male action hero.

Although we could feasibly do a video on Why Link in a Boy at some point this month if we wanted to...

Or we could just straight up steal an idea from Thomas Game Docs and do Why Link is So Hot...

Anyway, moving on, Metroid is good and also it is Christmas. As I write this, it's actually snowing outside my window, which is nice and festive, but also a bit annoying because it's the kind of cold, wet snow that doesn't settle, but just trickles down your back and freezes you to the bone. Plus, I've got to do the school run in a couple of hours and I'm not looking forward to the walk.

Perhaps I'll just work on today's OTHER video for a bit instead. Yup, today's a twofer!

Lots of love,
