#06: Blue Science Blunders

Now that I've got acid and plastic, it's time to setup a line for red circuits and batteries, both of which are needed for the third tier of research: blue science packs (they also require smart inserters and steel plates, but I've already got those covered). These two production lines will be placed just to the left of the science facility, and I need to put these products on their own bus for other recipes later on down the line as well as split them off and send them backwards to the blue science pack assemblers.

With red circuits being made, the demand for copper increases tremendously, as they require many green circuits, both of which I need to up production on. Plastic production begins to taper off quickly, demonstrating that I don't have enough petroleum being produced; obviously I need more pumpjacks on oil wells, since one isn't cutting it at all. Thankfully, I've got a lot more on the eastern side of my base, so I set up a crude oil pipeline to begin tapping into it.

Then it becomes apparent that my power setup is having issues, and the rear steam engines are not getting hot water, meaning that my power cap is lower than it should be. I try to fix it by moving them forward, but the whole design is flawed and I'll have to revamp it soon. Petroleum production is also still gimped, so I've got a bit of work to do in order to iron out the kinks in my design, but I do have enough blue science packs built up to research advanced oil processing to increase the efficiency of crude oil refining.

ABOUT THIS SERIES:
I'm a new player to Factorio, having recently picked it up with the Steam Release of the game. I have completed the campaigns and finished a single freeplay game by launching my first rocket, but beyond that I'm still green. In this series I hope to expand my skills and knowledge of the game as much as possible, exploring all the technologies, and pushing the limits of what I can do in it. Seeing as how Factorio is a pretty slow-paced game, the footage is sped up to 3x normal speed with post-commentary.

ABOUT THE GAME:
Factorio is an early access game that has recently released on Steam, but it has been in development for the past four years by the Wube Software team. This is a game about gathering resources to research technology, craft machines, process materials, and defend your base against angry biters, but this isn't just another survival/crafting game... no no! The name of the game is 'automation', and Factorio is all about finding ways to engineer solutions to your ever expanding horizons. We don't do manual labor here; instead we use our creative problem-solving skills to design a factory to do all the hard work for us.
