"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." - African Proverb

When my friends and I decided to make the move to Black Desert, we hoped for a brighter future. Swordsman Online was dead, Perfect World was getting stale, and we didn't want to play any genre other than MMOs. We thought Black Desert had it all - fun combat mechanics, active PvP scene, and a gear gap small enough that we could feasibly be competitive. We wanted it to be the game that all of us could play together as a team. I guess we were wrong.

We had no idea that group PvE content would've been completely non-existent. We knew grinding would suck from the start. Sitting there alone, doing the same rotation hours at a time was nothing more than insanity. But we thought that if we had each other, if we could grind together and keep each other company, we would've pulled through. How could we have known that a Massively Multiplayer Online game would have no multiplayer...

We couldn't imagine that even group PvP content would be dodgy at best. Red Battlefield? A so called "group content" where you can't queue together with friends. Node War? Some "guild content" where you wait on Protected Area, then throwing out damage and dying. At what point do we get a chance to really communicate with each other? Fully utilize the synergy between all 18 classes this game has to offer? Intentionally coordinate plays together, rather than hoping something happens randomly? Instead, we are just here, sitting in the same team, but doing our own things, alone...

We did not expect that our class choices would come to synergize so poorly. Back on Perfect World, each class had many options to peel, to coordinate CCs, and to assist each other with damage. But on BDO, why bother? How much CC coordination can you really have when there's a hard 2 CC limit? Is it even worth assisting each other for damage when killing people in one or two skills is the norm? Often times, we simply found ourselves killing people off to the side on our own, with only the occasional peel if we reach each other in time. Arsha RPK was all we had left, and but even that still sometimes felt like we were playing alone...

Black Desert was a MMO that promised many things. Yet, in all but the best of times, it is played like a solo game. We made our attempts to coordinate. We tried to invite those we've known from other games. We met many new friends along the way. But at the end of the day, the content is the problem. Grinding alone; life skilling alone; zerging alone; and sometimes, by happenstance you'll make one play off each other. For now, I'll still keep playing this game unless a better alternative comes out. But as long as we remain on Black Desert, I doubt we will ever be able to reach the level of synergy that we once had back in the days.

Until then, I hope you enjoy this video!
