"Better bend than break." - Scottish Proverb

In a way, joining Skirmish may have been more of a curse, rather than a blessing.. and I mean that in the best possible way.

Throughout the 2 years I have played BDO, I've never really considered myself a top player, or even a good player at that. In all the games I've known, 1v1 had always been the most effective and consistent method for improvement. If you wanted to be good, practicing 1v1s was something that was both necessary and sufficient. Yet, for one reason or another, I could never bring myself to enjoy dueling on BDO the same way that the best players did. I spent most of my time in the open world, but despite that, I've never gave up on one ideal: that PvP skill was what mattered the most. That regardless why a fight was lost - whether it's because of class, or numbers, or gear - that it could've been overcome by being more skilled, that there always was something I could've done differently, that somehow or some way, a "better player" would've won, had they been in the same position instead.

When Skirmish was born, it was the very embodiment of that "better player" given form. Skirmish was founded by many of the best players in the game, with the very same ideals that I've held on to. "Let your skill speak" they say.. And for a moment, I thought, that I would finally be justified. That Skirmish would be able to prove the ideals I've held on to was right all along. That if I was ever going to witness a guild win GvGs and NWs without outnumber, or outgear, or out stacking mainball classes, Skirmish would be the prime candidate.

But in the end, I guess my ideals were just that - ideals. Skirmish has come and gone now, but still, it's just another day. All the times I was zerged, all the people that tank full combos on the ground, all the guilds that stacked Witch and Wizards - I guess even with Skirmish, it was a losing fight after all. For a long time, I rebuffed the idea of getting more gear to win fights. I wanted to win because I played better, not because I dealt more damage or survived more attacks. Yet, knowing now that greater players than me have lost without gear or numbers, who am I to say I could do better?

Maybe the wisdom passed down from Vexis to General__Mors was true after all. As the saying goes: "Don't get good, get DP."
