"Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light." - Helen Keller

What is the purpose of PvP? It's a question that's been asked many times before. Sometimes there's an easy answer. Siege, Node War, Duels, each have well defined goals. Everyone can agree on what it means to win, to lose, or to draw. Other times there can be multiple interpretations. Players of Red Battlefield may have different opinions whether to prioritize their own scores, or their team's score. But what about those who just kill people on the world map, seemingly at random? What do you make of that?

The real question is, why RPK? Everyone has their own reasons. Some fight for the straightforward objective of claiming a grind spot. Others do it to settle guild rivalry, or assert dominance. Few may even look at it purely as a contest of KDR. There is a lot of room for interpretation. My friends and I used to always go with a very simple objective since the Perfect World days though - just kill everyone. That's all there was to it. Short and sweet.

You see, back when we played on Perfect World private servers, everyone was there with the sole purpose of PvP. So people didn't need to find a reason to kill each other, they just did it. It was a policy that just made a lot of sense, and we quickly adopted it. We didn't need to join some large guild, and waited for a war to be declared and shot called. We didn't need to wait for some sort of drama to start as an excuse to fight. We walked out of safe zone, and just started killing whoever was there. No approvals necessary. It was pure, organic RPK. "Kill first, ask questions later." Just friends partying together, and having fun. That is the form of PvP I primarily enjoy to this day.

So when we moved to Black Desert, we wanted to keep this tradition alive. And that's why for so long, we were always in the smaller guilds, always grouped together, always the third party. Arsha was perfect for our playstyle, and these fights we've had are what motivated me to keep playing this game, to improving my skill, even when dueling was no longer my focus... Yet, between real life priorities, shifting interests, and growing weariness of the game, our time together has been diminishing over the months. Despite all the new friends we've met, few shared the same sentiment for RPK that we once had. Soon, it seems only I alone will remain to continue the tradition. Perhaps our RPK days have come to a close, and I am now merely experiencing the afterglow...

But that doesn't mean it's over for myself and Black Desert Online just yet. I've joined a T1 guild recently, and with the free TRI Boss Gear given out recently, some friends have begun considering playing BDO (if they aren't already), and joining the guild. So despite how things currently are, the future is still far from certain. Only time will tell.

Until then, I hope you enjoy this video!
