
Bionicle Heroes w/ 3D spatial sound 🎧 (OpenAL Soft HRTF)

This is Bionicle Heroes with 3D sound using OpenAL Soft's HRTF through DSOAL [IRC_1037 tables]. This is a game with DirectSound3D support that no one would've known about had I not randomly found this game's demo on FilePlanet and recorded it for the internet. I didn't even play Bionicle Heroes at the time because it came out when I was growing out of the franchise.
In retrospect, I dodged a bullet.
Bionicle Heroes is a mess. It's basically Resident Evil 4 meets Lego Star Wars with the worst controls imaginable. The mouse aiming feels like 1/10th the sensitivity it should be, while thumbstick aiming swaps the x and y axis. Even if you fix it in the .cfg file, it's still floaty and disorientating (Vert- FOV doesn't help). No matter what device you use, you're forced into tank controls. The kicker? There actually IS a hidden .cfg option called NU_PCMOUSEMODE with strafing and fluid mouse aiming, but it completely disables forward and backward movement. I kind of like the idea of multiple heroes with different weapons and powers that can be switched on the fly, but even that could've been improved with a selection wheel. No clue why the masks stick to your head and never activate, either.
If you seriously want to play this game, just play it on console. I don't know if the controls are any better than on PC, but they couldn't be any worse! Even the 3D sound is ruined by the fact that sounds don't update their location when you turn the camera. The graphics are the blurriest I've ever seen, making ReShade's various sharpening shaders mandatory.
