This is Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter with OpenAL Soft's HRTF [IRC_1037 tables]. The 3D positional output is as big of a leap as the graphics, as the original First Encounter only output mono even with EAX. However, compared to Serious Sam II, the spatial audio sounds terrible. It's more like vague positional cues than pinpoint accuracy, and judging the distance of enemies can be really difficult during those tense encounters with Beheaded Kamikaze, Kleers, or Marsh Hoppers. There's even a strange bug with the Arachnoids where their hitscan weapons are the same volume at any distance, likely caused by a stereo .WAV file.
Note that in order to use OpenAL Soft HRTF in Serious Sam HD: The First Encounter, you need to place a 32-bit soft_oal.dll renamed to "OpenAL32.dll" inside c:\Windows\SysWOW64 and then set sfx_iAPI=0; in the console.
