Our journey through this weird back-in-time world continues in Eisenberg! Of course that means dealing with the Black Blades again, so that means dealing with the pirate Barbarossa, the idol Praline a la Mode, the salve-maker Qada, the ninja Kikyo, and the swordmaster Kamiizumi. Things are mostly the same for them, though this time around, Qada claims that it was his idea to treat wounded Shieldbearers (Kamiizumi ordered it the first time around) and admits he's using them as test subjects.

Meanwhile, in this version of the war, control of the mythril mine seems to pass back and forth between the Swordbearers and Shieldbearers, and right now, neither side has it. You know what that means? We don't have to run all over the place to rescue the canary boys. We can just make a beeline straight to the fire temple and Chaugmar.

Moving onto Eternia, our first fight is against Victor and Victoria. This time around, Victor's story is about how Victoria was cast aside by the Orthodoxy, and it was Braev who saved her and brought her to Eternia for treatment. I said this out loud, but the matriarch in Florem said they didn't have a water vestal because the only candidate for vestaling was cast out by the Orthodoxy for being sick. Hmm. Hmmm. HMMMM.

And at the top of Central Command, we find Braev again. This time, he actually offers something of an explanation! He stands against the Crystal Orthodoxy because when a plague consumed the world, they refused to help, and instead sealed off the roads and left villages to die. Later, when they planned on conducting the forbidden Grand Ritual, he marched on them, but he was too late. As a result, he says, the earth crystal has been leaking its power ever since, and that's why he had all those cables installed on it.

Bottom line is, he knows that the crystals can be used for good, but he believes that their misuse could lead to the end of the world--and this whole awakening business could bring about the Harrowing. So we're gonna beat him up.

After a detour to Vampire Castle, where we surprise DeRosso with our knowledge of his paintings before we've ever met this version, it's off to the earth temple to beat up the Gigas Lich and awaken the crystal. Then, off to the Holy Pillar, where Tiz asks Ringabel to write down everything that happens while Airy meditates. Of course, it's gonna be tough to juggle that with piloting Grandship and... him. Alternis Dim.

He's here to stop us. Rather, he's here to stop... Airy!? He believes that if he kills her, "all this will end" and the world will be saved. But Airy's our friend, and she's trying to save the world, so we'll have to fight! Just as before, when we defeat him, his helmet breaks, his face looks like Ringabel's, and the turbulence knocks him overboard. This time, however, we don't get his journal. We get something more meaningful: the return of Ringabel's memories. But first, we gotta keep from crashing. The light consumes Grandship, and...

Suddenly, we're back in Caldisla, being woken up by the innkeep. This time, though, he's kicking us out, because we're all strangers, and who knows what trouble we'll bring with us? Before we leave, Tiz asks him about the Great Chasm, and he tells us that Norende was completely swallowed up, and only one young boy survived, thanks to his older brother. Wait, older brother!?

Before we bring things to a close, we're tossed back onto Grandship, and Ringabel tells Tiz that maybe we shouldn't take Airy at her word. He doesn't doubt her, per se, but this stuff has never been done before, so how can we know that what we're doing will fill the Great Chasm?

Just some food for thought until next time. See you then!
