Bravely Default: Session 17 -- Wait, The Power of Friendship is MY Schtick!
So, I accidentally beat Ominas, Barras, and Heinkel without recording it, and it auto-saved, and I didn't have a way to go back. Whoops!
But those three were just a taste of what's to come. All the asterisk bearers will be teaming up in new ways that weren't seen before!
Next on the list is a trip to Florem Woods for a meeting of the Eternian Board of Girl Power, founded by none other than Victoria! Despite all her recruiting, it seems the only ones who showed up were Artemia (who's so bored she's sleeping) and Kikyo (who's very quiet, most of the time). After some initial awkwardness, Victoria cracks the ice with some candy, and Artemia finishes it off by revealing that she has a side job making charm bracelets. And then they notice us, so we have to fight.
Then, Yulyana's place is close by, so we'll pop in for a visit. We ask him to "judge our progress," which of course means a fight, but wait! Someone is coming! Why, it's Mephilia, and she's... much more sane this time around! What's more, she's got the power of Susano-o, thanks to the help of... Acting Captain Barbarossa! Yulyana asks them for help, so it's a friendly battle.
Over in Eisenberg, Praline's still got Eisen Bridge on lockdown, so we have to break her grip. But when things get dicey, someone shows up to save her: The Jackal! And when things get hairy, they... run away! The Jackal takes Praline to "Old Man Tick-Tock," which means we gotta follow them to Ancheim and confront them again, with Khamer at their side.
In Eternia, Khint watches as a young girl runs around happily and bumps into Einheria, who calls him commander. They talk a bit about the old days, 15 years ago, and mention a certain medic-in-training by the name of Holly Whyte. Guess who shows up next? Anyway, it turns out Einheria sent a message for Edea, but before that, she wants to test her skills. After the fight, she reveals that there are certain conspirators running around and she wants them stopped, but one of them is her superior officer, so she can't do anything. That means it's up to Edea, no longer shackled by Eternia's chain of command, to deal with them.
And where are they? Why, they're meeting in Central Command! In the old dungeon, in fact! At DeRosa's request, Qada and Profiteur have arrived to discuss their next big plan. DeRosa had Qada invent a new pathogen, plus a cure for it, and he wants to unleash it on Eternia. He wants Profiteur to mass produce the cure, and when the right people are gone, give the cure to everyone for free. Profiteur gets to be the savior, DeRosa gets to be the new leader, and Qada gets to be the guy who invented the cure or the guy who invented the disease (his choice). Gotta beat them up.
Over in nearby Vampire Castle, DeRosso is once again offering a tour of his gallery. But before he tests us, Victor shows up, seeking the secret to eternal life (for Victoria, obviously). Specifically, he wants a sample. Of DeRosso. Mr. Vampire is willing to help, but he has a test for Victor as well: he wants to see the depths of his despair... by fighting alongside him against us! After the battle, he offers Victor a lock of hair, and all he asks in return is that if he makes new life out of it, he names the girl Lillia, after DeRosso's own mother.
Finally, back in Central Command itself, waiting at the top of the tower is none other than Braev the Templar. He recognizes how much Edea has grown since he sent her off to Caldisla (point of order: not the same Edea!) but she's been defying him. He also says someone else has been defying him: Alternis Dim, everyone's favorite Dark Knight, who insists on staying to protect Braev. Together they're going to show Edea what's what, and midway through the fight, it's... Kamiizumi! And why not? He's as good as family in Braev's eyes, so let's make this battle a big family reunion!
I really like this chapter's set of refights, because I love the way all these enemy characters get to interact with each other after being (mostly) solo in the previous three worlds. They're friends! They like each other! They're not bad guys! Except for DeRosa, Qada, and Profiteur, of course.
Anyway, with the crystals awakened once again, the Holy Pillar has appeared, and venturing into it takes us to a fifth world.
The final world.
The end is near.
