Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Starting off in the town of Guntz since I need to talk to the great wise tree just a short walk east of town. He mentions someone by the name of Eichichi who researches all types of machines in Guntz.

After getting back to town, I switch to my party for this next segment. You will need Nina for where you will eventually have to go and she can't be fused with any shamans.

In Guntz, head to the big house in the back of town and go behind the bookcases in the back of the house. You should find some stairs down to a room with Eichichi in it. Upon talking to her, she'll want to see that giant machine of yours in Township. It's in the well right next to your carpenter's house. Head inside to talk to her there and she mentions if there's a way to fly like the Great Bird of Windia.

Before heading to Windia, Baretta's shop has some decent equipment upgrades if you're interested. She has one final shop upgrade that won't be available for awhile.

At Windia, put Nina in the lead and talk to the guard at the castle's gate. She needs to talk to the king about something, but the guard is slow to let her pass until the queen, Hina, tells him to let her through.

Hina then mentions to Nina about the legend behind the black wings. Basically, if a child is born into royalty with black wings, it spells bad news for the country. It also means that person needs to be killed to keep the country protected and also because it's law.

Hina & the king couldn't do it simply because Nina was their daughter. This also explains why Nina was forbidden from returning to the castle because someone might know of this legend. Hina then tells Nina to see the king. Head up the first set of stairs, then take the stairs on the left side going up to be in the king's room. Snag a Miracle from the cabinet before having Nina talk to the king.

You get to see another messenger trying to convince the king to convert to St. Eva's teachings, but fails as expected.

After his depature, Nina does some convincing and gets the king & gramps to let her into the basement area where the power of the Great Bird is sealed.

Head back to where Hina first talked to Nina here and take the door on the far right of the room. It leads to the basement which, oddly enough, is filled with random battles. The only enemy worth mentioning is the Barucuda. Fast, can randomly do a double physical attack, and can cast Typhoon.

Now, if you wanted to, you could just keep going west to some stairs going down and get to where you need to go. However, if you take the path going north, follow it to a choice of three paths going east, take the center path (Or 2nd from the top), then go west when the path forks, you'll find yourself going to a series of stairs heading up, eventually leading to a Storm Ring, a sizable upgrade for Nina's attack power.

Now, the path at the start going west eventually leads to a statue. Put Nina at the front of your party and examine the statue. Accept the chance to take a test that only Nina may do.
