Breath of Fresh Fire is a mod by ludmeister for the GBA version of Breath of Fire 2. This mod changes a number of things such as rebalanced characters, expanded shaman fusing options, rebalanced spells, and so on. The difficulty is lightly boosted as well.

The latest version of the mod can always be found here: http://jeffludwig.com/bof2/download.php

As always, do your own search for the ROM you need.

Time to take a spin on our new whale ride with my team you'll be seeing for the majority of the next few dungeons.

Starting from the beach where the Whale Bell was acquired, summon up Grandpa and go southeast. You should find a small island with the circus on it and the town of Tunlan.

Enter the circus and pay the fee to go have a look at the exhibits. One of them is most important, the one where the music changes to something sinister. Talking to the chief in this room means you'll find out what you need to do to free the Grass Man...grind until you can facestomp every monster imaginable or catch an Uparupa. The latter is clearly the less time consuming route.

In Tunlan, there's another problem...you can't chat with the local girls because of your tone. Lovely. The shops are available though so check them out, especially the armory since plenty of new equipment choices are in stock. Once you're done in town, exit and go hop on Grandpa again.

Head south to another island, but follow the outer edge of it until you find a beach you can dock at. Head into the nearby town of Guntz where you can grab a Tolen from the house in the very back and check out the armory for some very expensive, but very good equipment.

Head back to the world map and get on Grandpa again. Head south for a long stretch until you hit another small island with a hut on it and dismount, but be very careful. The monsters here are extremely powerful like the A. Sludge I fight. Even my defensively sound characters go down in two hits, hence the reason I didn't bother fusing Nina with her usual shaman choices. One hit her direction and it's bye bye fusion.

On the plus side, the enemies on this island cough up tons of experience. That one A. Sludge netted 6k exp for each member of my team. Everyone got a level out of that with Nina picking up a new spell, Typhoon.

As for the hut? Nothing in it besides some BoF1 cameos. Exit and go hop on Grandpa once again.

This time, the destination is northeast of this island. Look for a desert, then try to find a way to dismount on its southeast side (Which I show on my world map for easy reference). If that doesn't help, then you can go north of the BoF1 island to a landmass you can't dismount on (Should have seen a large building on it if you were coming from the north).

In any case, look for a small patch of land with circles on it. Move on to the square, pray you don't run into the local wildlife in the process, and you should enter an interesting area with potentially invisible wisps. Talk to them to find out Bleu has gone out. You may recall that Bleu was a playable character from the first game. Grab a Tolen from a chest and a CondUp from the cabinet in a room with a wisp before exiting.

Warp to Township and heal up/fuse shamans with your characters, then warp to Windia. Remember that house of monster hunters you ran into about halfway to Capitan? Head there and go in the house to find a journal which you should read.

Of course, that's why we're going into said forest because there's something I need to pick up there. That means running into a singing girl who decides to attack your party. Boss fight time!

Algernon, the giant stone head with a girl for a hat, is assisted by two girls called Danielle & Suiky. Those two girls each have only one attack. Danielle uses Restore for 100 hp worth of healing. Suiky's is more damaging though, hitting your entire team for 25-40 damage. Might not seem like much, but Algernon has its own party wide hitting attack for about the same damage if it so chooses to use it.

What you're going to want here is two people with spells that hit everyone. Luckily I have Nina (Lightning) and Sten (Flame) for that. The idea is for them to take out Danielle & Suiky. Both attacks together will be enough, but if Nina gets a critical on her Lightning spell, then that alone will be good to one shot them. The girls do come back, but only one at a time usually.

Meanwhile, Ryu & Rand are wailing away on Algernon. Ryu can break out one of his dragon moves to kill off the two girls if you want.

Once the boss goes kaput, claim the five Owl Fruits from the plants.

Before heading there, warp to Township to heal, then go to Hometown. Head into the magic school, head up to the 2nd floor, then head into the western room. Talk with the girl in the back on the left side. Next thing you know, she turns out to be Bleu and she joins up with the team.

Go and save up before the next trip.
