(CCPlays) Cold Waters (Dot Mod): 688(I) vs Russian and Chinese Navy Redux (Custom Mission)
One of the fun things with dotMod is you get a lot more units to play against in the Mission Editor, and I decided to use the mission editor to test just this!
Last time, we pit a 688(I) against 6-10 surface ships, and between 3-4 submarines (but not the latest Russian subs like Alfa, Victor, Sierra, Akula, or Severodvinks). 688 didn't take a single hit, and wiped out all the surface forces, and killed 1 sub.
Let's try something similar, but different. 4 groups, 1 Russian surface (3), 1 Russian sub (2-3) no limits this time, 1 Chinese surface (5-6), 1 Chinese sub (2-3). I would have no idea what I'd be facing. But they are all supposed to be aggressive. Mission editor has a limit of 15 enemies total. This was the compromise.

Immediately went deep, let out the towed array, went ultra-quiet, and started listening. Contacts are all over to the northeast. And I am detecting no less than 3 Kiev CGHs! But not a single sub... Hmmm... I also identified Kara, Jianghu, Luda, and one other escort... Base course appears to be WNW.
I decided to head east, while sending 3 torpedoes north then dogleg to northeast. I decided to target the 3 Kievs first with one torpedo each to make sure they don't run away at 32 kts.
The three torpedoes successfully slowed all three Kievs down to 10 kts, but a Luda is heading my way and only 5 km away. I sent a torpedo after the Luda III, then two more toward the damaged Kievs. When the nearest Luda died, I sent another torpedo after the remaining Kiev, and wondered if an enemy sub is about to shoot torpedoes at me. One escort did fire a torpedo down the doglegged heading, which didn't come near me.
WIth nothing close by, I decided to shoot a torpedo to the northeast for another escort, then I suddenly got a detection to my ENE... and it's cavitating! I immediately snapshot a torpedo to that heading and dove for test depth.
Fortunately I was able to dogleg that torpedo around the sinking wreckage of the Luda, and it spooked the enemy sub into going flank... It was an improved Kilo. He actually snapshot 2 torpedoes but he went for the dogleg bearing, which sent his torps to the west, and I was well south of that. And my torpedo, after a while of turning and chasing, did manage to kill him. The torpedo I sent north is chasing an escort, and eventually found it.
Another salvo went out, split between NE and NW, and a snaking torpedo appeared to my NWN, heading SWS. As it would not come near me, I chose to have no reaction. The torpedoes were steered toward north and northwest. The northern torpedo took out a Jianghu, and the one going west removed the Luhu.
I attempted to exit but it insists there is a "nearby vessel". Towed array was deployed, and I circled the area twice, both above and below the layer. NOTHING. I fired a decoy to east. Nothing.
Decided to disengage.

Turns out there was a Victor III, a Sierra, and a Han that never engaged me. Still, that's a LOT of tonnage sunk, esp. 3 Kievs...
