(CCPlays) Cold Waters (Dot Mod): Seawolf vs Russian and Chinese Wolfpack (Custom Mission)
One of the fun things with dotMod is you can play as an expanded array of vessels, against and expanded array of enemies, and I decided to use the mission editor to test just this!
We tried pitting Seawolf and 688 against both surface and sub assets, and we're killing them left and right. How about this time, we put them against ONLY sub assets?
Mission editor setup: 2 groups of 4 to 6 subs, one group is all Russian, and one group is all Chinese (except the Xia SSBN), both set to aggressive.
------
Initial contacts are to SE, and we quickly IDed a trawler, and possibly a biologic. Then a Ming popped up, quite close, but oblivious, base course southwest. I moved north / northeast and waited.
Soon, I found an Alfa hiding behind the Ming, and further off to southeast, the possible biologic was confirmed humpback whale. The Ming and Alfa are on opposite sides of a very very weak layer. I expect someone behind the Alfa, and I was not disappointed, as I soon got a Victor III.
I decided to start on my attack. First, a decoy to the east (turned out to be unnecessary) then 3 torpedoes to the east, to be turned south as needed.
When I found a Kilo Improved near the Alfa, and a Ming to my south, I turned south and launched 2 more torpedoes east for dogleg turns, even as my first two torpedoes are getting close.
The Alfa and the Victor died first, then the Kilo and the Ming. Sonar detected ANOTHER contact to the south, even further than the Ming. I launched another torpedo south to catch that, even as I launched a decoy to southeast (just in case).
Sonar tentatively identified the contact south as a Sierra, and the torpedo did catch up do it, even as a torpedo I originally sent east and turned it around to push this sub toward the other torpedo. Turns out this was a Severodvinsk class, Russian's baddest sub.
I circled one more time for any evidence of enemy sub, but nothing. I hit ESC and verified no enemies nearby. So I disengaged.
-----
After action report shows that there were TWO more Victor IIIs, another Ming, and a Romeo that got away. Still, I sank 5 out of 9 subs they sent against me. Not bad, I'd say.
