One of the fun things with dotMod is you can play anybody!

Mission editor setup: 2 groups of 5 to 8 subs, one group is all Russian, and one group is all Chinese (except the Xia SSBN), both set to aggressive. So yes, I may be facing up to 15 hostile subs. Will I emerge triumphant... or crushed by torpedoes?

(And yes, I've done this once before, which is why this is a "Redux")

Started with contacts to the south / southeast. There are multiple merchants, at least one trawler, and one humpback whale, in addition to the various possible submarines, which included a Han, a Ming, and a Song. We can prevent collateral damage with torpedo depth lockout.

I fired 3 torpedoes to southwest, then southeast, but apparently it is not good enough. Song fired a two-torpedo spread and one of them ended up passing almost right over me. I had to pop an acoustic decoy to avoid taking a hit. Fortunately, he forgot to change the depth setting on the torpedo and I sank below its detection cone.

Two of the torpedoes I sent south found their way to the Ming and Song but these two are slippery as they keep popping decoys at just the right time to force the torpedo the circle around and try again. Finally the Song died, but the one chasing the Ming actually for a while locked onto the Humpback whale and I had to turn it around, and finally the Ming went down. But there is another Chinese sub, the Han, to the south. The third torpedo I sent that way actually managed to kill a Kilo (Improved) by itself.

I sent 3 torpedoes to the southeast, with planned dogleg to south to catch the Han and anyone else in the area, when my towed array caught contacts to the WSW... Kilo and one other contact. I decided to ignore them as I need to clear the area around the Han first.

I start the 3 torpedoes on the dogleg toward the Han, which is now within 3 km, and there comes the reciprocal torpedo... and something else. It seems we have also flushed out Kilo and Kilo Improved! I redesignate the torpedoes to go after them.

The Ming died, and its snapshot reciprocal torpedo ended up homing on the humpback whale. After a kaboom, the whale is no more. The other two torpedoes are chasing down their targets. So I launched three torpedoes at the contacts to the West with dogleg planned toward WSW toward the 2 targets, which resolved as a Victor III and an Alfa.

The two torpedoes to the south killed their intended targets, so it's a matter of chasing down the Alfa, which can go 41 kts. Then an extra Ming somehow showed up as well.

The Alfa died first, as it was just heading SWS, allowing the torpedo to come up its baffles and it was too late to evade, even with its legendary speed. The remaining two went after Victor III.

Then an unknown contact popped up between Victor III and us, uncertain range. I turned one of the two torpedoes around to go after the Ming, as this disguises my own location. But again, these prove to be slippery targets, as they kept dodging left and right. Finally Victor III died, and I decided to launch two more torpedoes to flush things to southwest.

The Ming finally made a wrong turn and ate the torpedo, so the two torpedoes are turned southeast, and it flushed out an Akula, but it was again, slippery, and it wasn't until the two torpedos caught it in a pincher that it finally died.

That made it 10 kills, not a scratch on self. But is there a 11th?

I circled the area at ultraquiet, towed array deployed, trying to pick up ANYTHING, but the area is silent. So I disengaged.

There was indeed the 11th sub there, another Akula, which escaped. But killing 10 out of 11 subs trying to kill you is not bad.
