(CCPlays) Cold Waters (Dot Mod): 688(I) vs Super Wolfpack Redux (11-15 subs!) (Custom Mission)
One of the fun things with dotMod with Cold Waters you can make your own scenarios. Last time we tried 688(I) against the best Russia and China has, it didn't fare too well, took 2 hits, but killed 10 of 11. Can we do better?
Mission editor setup: Same as last time... Group 1 of 8-10 Chinese subs (except the Xia SSBN) and Group 2 of 3-5 Russian subs (all of them), both aggressive. We're looking at 11-15 subs... Oh, and we're adding 1 ASW patrol bomber and an ASW helo.

Immediately went deep and turned west, as we got all sorts of contacts to south, 2 Romeos, 2 Hans. Initial estimated range is 4km, and that's too close. Then Sierra 5 just launched against... something? But Sierra 5 is WAY off to the south?! Then Sierra 6 popped up to south. Then the Romeos just faded.
I popped decoy to SSE, followed by 3 torpedoes, going for the 2 Hans. Just as torpedoes doglegged we got ANOTHER launch transient from Sierra 5. This time it went flank, and we finally IDed it as Song class SSK.
One Han went down, and we got 2 torpedoes chasing Song S5, with one Han S1 runing off to east. Sierra 7 just popped up. Song S5 finally died, but Sierra 7 just launched a torpedo toward the east?
I turned Torpedo 2 toward S7 but it seems to be locking onto my own decoy. I launched 2 more torpedoes so they can come down and help the hunt.
In the meanwhile, finally found S7 as a Ming but torp 2 needs to head off the Han (S1) and I have the new Torps 1 and 3 chasing Ming (S7). Han finally died, so it's now a matter of chasing down the Ming.
We now also have new contacts popping up, like S10. I have torp 1 chasing down S6, and torp 3 chasing down S10. S11 just popped up well to south. In the confusion S7 Ming got away to east, but Torp 3 seems to be chasing down either a Sierra or Severodvinsk. And S6 died without us finding out what it was. S9, identified Ming, is heading north. We have Torp 1 and 2 in transit but right now, torp 3 is doing all the work, chasing down S10 (Sierra?) and finally got it done.
We have 2 Mings on the map (S7 and S9). I have 2 torpedoes on the way. After a bit of chasing both are down. Now we have unidentified S8 and S11.
I salvoed 3 torpedoes to east then dogleg south, heading toward S8 and S11 direction, with 1 splitting the middle. And surprisingly all picked up targets immediately. T1 picked up S8 as a Sierra. T2 going south picked up a Song as S12, but S11 was identified as a Sierra. T3 went after S13, which was identified as a Kilo. All three died, but that left a Sierra untouched, then it was reidentified as an Akula instead.
I quickly launched 2 torpedoes trying to bracket the Akula. Also keep in mind the two Romeos were never heard from after the initial detection. When the two torpedoes got close, Akula decided to go active (it had ran off to the north). It fired 2 snapshot torpedoes but was tricked by the dogleg incoming track. I turned both torpedoes to chase the Akula, and caught it. Ran the other one out of power but there are no more targets.
Spend next 10 plus minutes looking for more contacts, but there are none. The 2 Romeos have departed the scene.

After Action Report: The 2 Romeos escaped. Killed 11 out of 13, no damage. Great job, 688!
