One of the fun things with dotMod is you can play anybody!

Mission editor setup: North Atlantic All, Group 1 5-6 ships composed of all the NATO FFs and DDs except Arleightburke Flight II (too new), and all of the neutral merchants.

Then I'll take the Soviet Svedlov light cruiser, which is armed with 12 152mm naval cannons. Individually, they are larger than the 5 inch guns on the NATO ships. And this one has 12 of them...

The catch is you have NO missiles, not even for air defense.

Contacts to the southwest. Radar and ESM on. Our course is W.

And there comes all the ASMs, and the SAMs used as light ASMs. We turned 30 degrees off the incoming path of ASM and get ready on the chaff. I usually launch chaff just as the CIWS open up, or just a hair before that, as the alarm blares.

I turned south to try a different profile, and one missile somehow got through and knocked out my engines. But damage control got me underway quickly and we're back up to all ahead flank, and I zigged again to force the missiles onto a different path where they have to turn to find me, giving me more time to shoot at them.

In the meanwhile my forward gun crew is busy pumping out shots 6 at a time at the nearest NATO escort, which was a Perry-class frigate. It took a while to sink it though. Behind it was an Adams-class frigate, which quickly met the same fate, after they ran out of missiles.

Then it's a matter of staying on flank ahead, and two merchants were spotted on the same course heading away at 18 kts. Those two were sunk by gunfire, which was when I spotted yet ANOTHER merchant, a fast oiler, going 20 kts and well ahead of the two I sunk. However, it is not beyond my guns, and couple salvoes sank that as well.
