(CCPlays) Cold Waters (Dot Mod): Seawolf vs Russian and Chinese Navy (Custom Mission / 2000)
One of the fun things with dotMod is you can play surface ships now, and I decided to use the mission editor to test just this!
What if... We pit USS Seawolf against a good chunk of Russian and Chinese Navy? Say, between 6-10 surface ships, and between 3-4 submarines? To make it SLIGHTLY fair, we're not using the latest Russian subs (no Alfa, Victor, Sierra, Akula, or Severodvinks). How will the Seawolf fare?
------
Decided to go deep immediately, and seems we've been a bit unlucky, as we were spotted by an ASW helo, and despite using a decoy, we sustained a hit in the stern and several components are damaged. And I am limited to 10 kts. However, we manage to get away. It is time to show them even a wounded wolf can be VERY VERY dangerous.
After displacing a bit to the east and ID most of our contacts, we've established all the players... No less than 2 Kirovs, 2 Karas, plus Sovremenny, Jianghu 3, Luda and Luda 3, Xia, Han, Kilo, Song, plus multiple merchants and trawlers transiting the area, even a static oil rig to the west.
With 7 available torpedo tubes, we can engage a LOT of targets. But first, we have to get away from all the torpedoes launched at my old location. Once we've done that, it's time to launch all 7 torpedoes on separate doglegs to the northwest.
After a couple klick have been transited, 3 torpedoes were turned northeast to go after the multiple subs in the area, and the others are sent toward NNW after at least one Kirov in the area.
The first to die was actually Kirov 1 to NNW as it was the closest. Then a Xia submarine. Then Song just northwest of the dead Kirov. Then Kilo to the N.
Next came Han to NNE, but that one died hard as it dodged the torpedo multiple times.
Then another Kirov, which may have eaten a torpedo before.
My own sub was flooding, so I need to get near the surface. And that usually means going for 10 kts.
Time to launch our second salvo... I fired 4 torpedoes to northwest, hoping to dogleg them north or northeast. There is at least a Sovremenny, if not more there.
Sovremenny died, but it seems to have fired two torpedoes and one of which got a bit too close. Had to use another MOSS decoy, as well as an emergency deep order. Fortunately, the hostile torpedo was stuck at shallow depth. The Jianghu3 died as well. I diverted the two torpedoes left east and northeast, as I can see the two Karas turning back.
The two torpedoes settled into a long transit, and after a bit of twist and turn, was able to take down a Kara each.
That leaves only 2 ships, a Luda (north) and Luda3 (NNW) both of which are turning back. I fired two more torpedoes when their range hit 25 km. I doglegged both, and after a bit of long transit, both hit, but one took a few more circles.
And that concludes the mission. Despite damage, Seawolf was able to take down 112K tons of enemy military ships. Would have liked to not take the damage, but that's indeed, optional.
