(CCPlays) Cold Waters (Dot Mod): Iowa Battleship vs Kirov Cruiser and Kiev and Moskva Carriers
One of the fun things with dotMod with Cold Waters you can make your own scenarios. And we're moving to a different era to get a different list of ships... How about... the Iowa-class Battleship circa 1984?
Mission editor setup: 1 Kirov CGN
We're just messing around, since there's no way US would ever send a battleship alone. But it's fun, right?
------
With radar and ESM mast raised, we noticed the Kirov immediately started popping ASMs, but a few at a time. We just swat them with the CIWS and chaff, while crossing their T with our big guns. And this repeats, until the 5 minute mark into the battle when I started to send all the Harpoons down-range.
Kirov blew up at the 7 minute mark. Unfortunately, this means more than half dozen Harpoons have no more target... And they locked onto the poor trawler that decided to transit the area at the wrong time.
------
Gee, that's anti-climactic... Let's put Iowa against Kirov, Moskva and Kiev then... Would it be a bit more of an even fight?
Not really.
------
Brought up radar and ESM masts, and quickly the three ships started launching ASM sporadically, but nothing the CIWS and chaff can't handle. We started shooting back with the big guns, while popping Harpoons and TASMs in salvos when I can between their barrages.
I did have to raise the "periscope" to get a stable range on the enemy units, as they seem to be jamming the radar, giving weird range readings.
None of their shots hit, but I'm landing occasional hits with my 16 inch shells.
Kirov blew up at 17 minute mark.
Kiev took the fatal hit at about 20 minute mark.
Moskva broke up 2 minutes later.
------
That was one of the shorter fights... Should we add more escorts? Hmmm...
