This is a demonstration of Clive Barker's Undying with the X-Fi Titanium's native CMSS-3D HRTF. This was a request by user Sean Gatchell. As classic as Undying is, it's a real pain in the ass to record properly. The quality is absolutely terrible, but this was the best I could manage after hours of failed recordings. For an Unreal Engine 1 game, the sound actually isn't that great. Most voices and ambient sounds are in mono, and actual 3D sound emitters are pretty rare. Undying would definitely sound better on a real Aureal Vortex 2.
I'm using Creative's built-in A3D.dll for sound as well as Aureal's official A2D wrapper that map A3D calls to DirectSound3D. As far as I know, this is the first ever video on Youtube to demonstrate the X-Fi's A3D emulation. However, there doesn't seem to be any wavetracing going on and the HRTF is definitely worse than on real hardware. I'm also using a number of fixes that allow for HD resolutions and detail textures which are linked below.
