Demonicon playthrough on hard Part 03 Don't mind me, I'm just backtracking
For all the information and all the 'whys', please read the description of Part 1 of this playthrough. This is another section of the game on the highest difficulty (initially available since there is yet a higher difficulty level you unlock after you beat the game).
In this part: this is where a major flaw of the game really starts to "shine". With the limited areas you can explore and no respawning loot, enemies or random encounters, limited interactions with the environment, it is a real pain to walk from one end of the city to the completely opposite one just for a short dialogue or a quest item, with nothing happening in-between. There are so fixed enemy encounters though, to keep you busy. I think they are based on your choices: if you choose to help the city guard, the cartel will send some thugs after you. However, there are only few of those encounters and they are pretty dull. Just two types of enemies attacking in waves. But, let's move on with the story. We find Calandra and it looks that she was beaten by Falk for asking too many questions. It turns out that Falk has something to do with the attack of the undead and the necromancers. Calandra also claims that Falk and his mother are the only way to help Calandra and Cairon learn something about their gift. I haven't mentioned it yet: the siblings actually end up mixing their blood (when tending their wounds) despite their father's warning. It happens in the tutorial. This is when Cairon learns his first magic spell. From that point on, they both want to learn something about their true identity. So, the clues point out to the Moloch Mountain and we head off to visit it once again to talk with the Dark Council that will probably shed more light at the mystery. This is another example of the game's backtracking problem - the developers recycled old locations pretty often. When Cairon reaches the Dark Council, he can ask them a set of questions about various people. In short, it turns out that Cairon's father might not be his real father, Calandra's and Cairon's fates are bound together and there were seven children born with the intent to have them kill each other and the last child standing will become the Paladin - the servant of a powerful demon. Cairon also learns that Falk is his... brother. Which does not add anything awkward to the already awkward story, right? Later on, Cairon's "father" gives him Falk's mother's notes he had stolen from her chest, but they are written in an unknown language. Cairon decides to go to the heretic mage he met earlier during the job for the city guard. At this point of the game, I discovered that there are actually some side quests. They are called assignments and they can be found on the bounty board. You can easily miss it, because you need to be quite close to the board for the interaction mark to show up. The quests are just some simple "kill this/bring that" jobs, but they are the only way to earn additional loot and experience. Later on, it turns out, according to the heretic mage, that a demon is about to be summoned in the city. Cairon immediately goes to the market to fight another boss. When the demon is defeated, Falk "manages" to catch the summoner of the demon and announces that his wedding with Calandra will be the perfect way to celebrate the great victory. At the temple, Falk's mother reveals her true identity. She's Azaril, an evil elven enchantress. Cairon and his "father" are thrown to jail. The rest of the video is the jailbreak.
