Demonicon playthrough on hard Part 04 The mandatory swamp level
For all the information and all the 'whys', please read the description of Part 1 of this playthrough. This is another section of the game on the highest difficulty (initially available since there is yet a higher difficulty level you unlock after you beat the game).
In this part: So, Cairon manages to break from prison but to no avail, Calandra and Azaril already left the city (Calandra is supposed to become Azaril's student in order to develop her gift). Cairon meets Falk and this is probably one of the hardest boss fights in the game (this is a subjective opinion, of course, but at this point of the game, Cairon is pretty weak compared to his enemies and in this fight you must defeat several Falk's bodyguards and then Falk himself - and it is a multi-phase battle. If you die, you need to go through the whole thing again. Another thing I want to mention. Falk asks Cairon about his last words and then adds "A little greeting for Calandra, perhaps? When I see her again, I could always shove a little souvenir into her mouth" - I mean, we have a scene with two guys, who are probably brothers, talking about their sister. No red flags here, right?:P Ok, Cairon manages to defeat Falk, the master of the Rondrians shows up and thanks Cairon for his service. Falk was scheming against him and the whole business with demon summoning was just to let Falk gain more glory and eventually become the new master. Whatever. As a reward, Cairon receives a blessing and passes out. It turns out that his demon part didn't accept the gift. All in all, clues to rescue Calandra point out to Ghamat, a mysterious man that once led the sick out of Warunk to a land called Clawmoor. This is Cairon's new destination. Now, despite the somewhat ironic title of this part of the playthrough, I really liked this portion of the game. Swamp levels in games can be pretty annoying, feel claustrophobic, dark and gloomy. However, the swamp level in Demonicon is pretty interesting. The related story is interesting from the very beginning and the game even added some simple puzzles to keep the experience fresh. And there are finally some new enemies! After reaching Clawmoor, it turns out that the main settlement there is run by two people: Ulev and Ghamat. Cairon reaches the settlement and meets Ulev. Long story short, the locals are members of a cult as a part of which they try to prove their worth so that they can become the chosen ones. Chosen ones may then go to the Paradise, thanks to Ghamat. Of course, the whole thing sounds suspicious and soon Cairon meets a former priestess who says that the "chosen ones" are actually thrown to a pit and nothing but death awaits them there. So, since the game is based on choosing between contradictory solutions, the player can either side with Ulev (and Ghamat) or the priestess. I decided to join the priestess who promised to provide more information about Azaril and Calandra.
