The Fool Hidden Objects game playthrough with all cutscenes
0This is yet another hidden objects game. I think this genre is my safe haven to which I venture every time I am either too tired to play major titles or too tired OF playing major titles :) There is something strangely soothing in solving puzzles with a simple, often interesting story in the background.
The Fool was developed by MagicIndie and published by MumboJumbo in 2015. Although this game is not that old, it somehow has the feel of a much older game (lack of resolution settings, etc.). It tells the story of a boy who decides to become a hero of the land and defeat the dragon terrorizing the kindom. At least that is what you would assume, but the boy's plan is slightly different... which leads to an even greater adventure that makes the main character travel to various lands.
I must admit that despite my initial skepticism about the quality of this game, I really enjoyed it. As the beginning of the game is pretty generic, once you get to travel to distant realms, the game becomes much more interesting and the locations look nice and well-done (although their style somehow leaves the impression that each was taken from a different game).
There are only two BUTS: one of the first puzzles took me by surprise. I spent WAY more time on it than I should. Mind you, that I have finished many games from this genre and puzzle mini-games do not usually block my progress, but this one particular puzzle... either I approached it incorrectly or it was definitely too difficult. I don't know. I considered whether I should cut a major part of my struggle out of the video, but instead I am leaving it here just to show you how long it took me (compared to the rest of the game). Other puzzles were fine, I breezed through them, but that particular one... was simply incompatible with my brain. I know that I could have simply skipped it, but that is not the point of such games, isn't it?:)
The second BUT: the intro DOES NOT work in the Steam version of the game. First, I was surprised that there was no backstory provided. Then, I decided that it was probably due to the game's quality. But once I saw one cutscene after another, I decided it must have been a bug of some sort. I tried to extract game files to search for the intro, tried starting the game with different settings - no luck. The only solution I found was to install the trial version of the game from a different game store and boom, it worked. So the intro you see in this playthrough is taken from a trial version of the game!
Apart from that, I really enjoyed this game. A fine little title to play on a lazy day :)
