Demonicon playthrough Part 08 The Cathedral, final tasks and fight with Azaril
For all the information and all the 'whys', please read the description of Part 1 of this playthrough. This is another section of the game on the highest difficulty (initially available since there is yet a higher difficulty level you unlock after you beat the game).
In this part: Cairon continues his task to break the seven seals and establish the fundamental rules for the Catechism and, as a result, for the new church to be created by Calandra and Cairon. I must admit that I really liked the part where you have to choose between two completely different rules that will govern the believers' life, most of the reasoning and decisions reflected typical debates in our world when it comes to religion. While some of the reasoning behind the decisions were convincing, some of the problems were kind of meh and felt forced. And this is how this whole section of the game feels like as well β forced and rushed. It's like the developers created a huge location but did not have time to populate it with tasks or opportunities. Considering the amount of backtracking... it all becomes a chore. As I like the whole "monastery part" of the game, it is very flawed and long, a bit too long. Quests seem to go on and on forever. I also had to look up the solution for the gold and bones puzzle on the Internet because I simply overthought it... It seemed as if there was something more to it, that is why I analyzed all the books at the dungeon. Within the course of this final stretch of the game, Cairon (the player) needs to choose his final alliances and decide whether he wants to finally bang his sister or not (yes, if you think this plot has been forgotten by the devs, you're wrong). Everything leads to a final confrontation with Azaril and I must admit it was very challenging and took me several attempts to beat her (and was pretty annoying because the autosave could have been set right before the battle and not at the beginning of the location... each time I had to look everything anew to get some of the precious EXP. After Azaril is defeated, surprise suprise - breaking the seals releases Zhulgaroth and Calandra decides the use of her gift to create portals to face the demon. I decided to kill Azaril instead of sparing her and to discard the Cathesism instead of introducing it. At this point, I simply stopped paying attention to characters' motivations because it all became a complete mess. Some of the decisions the player needs to make feel forced just for the sake of making a decision (between two contradictory options, even if no motivations for them have been presented in the game or not even a single hint). After another cutscene summing up the consequences of player's decisions, this section of the game ends. The actual final stretch of the game begins... literally at the spot where the game began as well.
