Demonicon playthrough on hard Part 05 I kissed a zombie girl
For all the information and all the 'whys', please read the description of Part 1 of this playthrough. This is another section of the game on the highest difficulty (initially available since there is yet a higher difficulty level you unlock after you beat the game).
In this part: Cairon investigates the mystery of Ghamat's rituals. He's doing some fetch quests for the priestess in the village to save the folk from the lies of Ghamat and Ulev. Although not all of her solutions seem moral (she intends to poison the sick ones to save their souls), I still decided to take her side. Eventually, the priestess manages to rebuild an old shrine and wants to consecrate it while Cairon would be there for protection. The whole things goes against the plan, because it turns out that Cairon has a demonic side and the priestess and her men expel him from the shrine, he must make his way through a dangerous valley to prove his pure intentions and that gods favor him. Of course, Cairon manages to escape the death trap and enters and old quarry full of zombies. There, he meets Latika, Ulev's daughter who was a chosen one and should already be in her promised paradise. Of course, dialogues with the "pretty" zombie are full of flirting and undertones, but compared to "sister/brother love" plot going on, this sub-plot is actually funny, without unnecessary cringe. Cairon learns from Latika that Ghamat IS actually trying to help the sick he had taken from Warunk... but in kind of twisted way. He has an amulet capable of soothing the pain of the sick, but it is not powerful enough to fight the plague. However, the amulet is a part of a larger artefact that is burried somewhere in the quarry. That is why Ghamat throws people into the pit so that they become zombies and work at the quarry, digging for the artifact. This location is basically a long dungeon full of (way too many) enemies and simple environmental puzzles. Later on, Cairon meets Ghamat who escapes the quarry. Cairon goes after him and the whole section ends with a mini-boss. Cairon finally escapes the quarry and returns to the settlement. Meanwhile, Ghamat decides to go all in and throw all the people from the village to the pit. To stop him, Cairon challenges Ghamat and both jump into the pit. After another plot twist (Cairon ends up imprisoned, Ghamat actually sounds like a nice guy who wants to protect them both from killing each other, Ghamat is Cairon's brother) Cairon finally faces Ghamat. I must admit that this boss fight was really interesting and very different from what the game had offered by that point. When defeated, Ghamat again asks Cairon to continue the search for the artifact and that people in Clawmoor need something to believe in. Cairon takes the amulet and once again must make a decision. This part is probably the weakest bit of this whole stretch of the game. I sided with the priestess but somehow felt like giving hope to the locals and felt bad for Latika who, in a twisted way, was a living and sentient being. However, if the player decides to give the amulet to Ulev and don't say a word about the quarry and zombies down there, the priestess gets instantly killed and the only way to save her is to have high persuasion. This game sometimes makes you follow a certain path, make smaller decisions, but then all of a sudden makes you face a specific problem and it's a way of no return - there are no save files you can go back to, just here and now. Why there's nothing wrong with it, the game constantly give you the feeling that your every action means something and there's always the tension that you might need to make important decisions around the corner... just to have the opposite outcome in the end.
