Doom Wads/Mods #486:Shovelware Adventure
2https://www.doomworld.com/idgames/levels/doom2/s-u/shovelad Not every wad can be a winner as I have explained many times before, and it pains me to have to dislike a wad that was created by DoomKid, However, this wad, Shovelware Adventure ranks as among the most aggravating and grating wads I've played on this series, I hated Fallout.Wad and Pro Doomer but Shovelware Adventure is a new kind.. of pain, and of agony.
Released on January 2nd 2017, Shovelware Adventure is a single level pwad that was created by Doomkid to emulate the feeling of the 1990s shareware CD-Roms that Doom had, and, to a degree DoomKid does succeed doing this with various monster types and new weapons graphics/sounds and his jarring track "Denied" from the Plutonia Midi Pack, however in my experience there's so many things that I didn't enjoy about this wad, and no, this is not a dig on DoomKid in anyway.
...I've said that wads in the past either annoyed me with ammo placement thats poor or health placement thats poor but Shovelware Adventure aggravated me on the word go with the map itself, it's so strange in terms of how it's made that the entire map is open to the player and this left me without any sense of adventure or accomplishment, the placement of everything in the map is a mess and with stacks of monsters and only our rifle (pistol replacement) I usually ended up with less than 50 health on anything above Hey Not Too Rough in the FIRST room of this map.
DoomKid's love of custom monsters is in full effect here and I recognized some of them but others I didn't, the overall map took post video 2 hours for me to complete as I was having great trouble getting the keys and dealing with new zombie hitscanners who can endure a double barrel shotgun blast which is.. yeah, There might be fans of this wad out there but I wasn't impressed at all by Shovelware Adventure.
