Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster - Ch. 5 - The Lich
0So last time, we sailed West to the town of Melmond. Melmond is in a state of ruin due to a vampire, which has been feasting on the energy of the earth itself. Because of that, the earth is in a state of decay and the soil has become infertile. So we marched all the way to the third floor of the Cavern of Earth and gave that vampire a wallop. Surely that means everything is now back to normal, right? Alas, as we returned to Melmond, things were still in the same state that we had left them...
CHAPTER 5 - THE LICH
When we beat the vampire, we were able to open the chest behind it, which contained the Star Ruby. People in town have mentioned a Giant in a nearby cave that loves gems. So let's head there and make that Giant's day. Sure enough, the Giant tells us that he'll let us pass if we give him the ruby, so we do that. There's an area below with a few chests, so make sure you don't leave here too quickly now. After you exit, you'll see another cave a little further East. As we've also heard in town, there's a very wise Sage living in a cave to the West.
This is the Sage's cave. He'll inform you that the vampire was just a servant and that the real cause of the earth's decay still lies deeper in the Cavern of Earth. He'll also give you the Earth Rod, which will allow you to advance further in the cavern. So head back there. This time it's easier, since we've already explored the first three floors. The last two floors are sprawling, but only the fourth floor has any treasure. So on the last floor, you can head straight for the door. Inside is the Earth Crystal and the true foe that has been draining the earth of its energy, the Lich!
The Lich is definitely tougher than the Vampire, but it's still not too tough. He's weak against Fire and also Dia spells. I don't have Dia but just using Firaga a few times gets the job done. The Earth Crystal is now restored! You can use the tile in the back to leave and head back to Melmond to heal. We're now about halfway through this game!
