Developed by Playdead, Inside takes the formula from Limbo and creates a new minimal puzzle platforming adventure. The object of the game is to head right and figure out what to do. You control a small child, and there appears to be pedophiles walking around so you'll want to avoid them at all costs. The rest is a mystery, much of the early game is spent being chased, then evolves into avoiding hazards and solving environmental puzzles. There's two buttons used during Inside: jump and interact. Jumping feels good, and the child stumbles and behaves and you would think when jumping. The same button is also used to swim. Climbing ladders and swinging on ropes is also very natural. Everything about the movements feels realistic so props to the physics designers. You can push boxes pull switches as well as move objects in the background like refrigerators and yank handles. Many of these things blend in seamlessly with the environment so you'll have to look closely. There's minimal sound effects so you'll want to crank the volume a bit. I appreciate how there's there's no tutorial, cutscenes, or explanation. The game speaks for itself and doesn't insult your intelligence, but tests it for about 4 hours. And a little longer if you want to find all of the hidden capsules. My biggest complaint about Inside is how easy it was and density of some of the events. I felt like spent too much time just running throughout the first hour of the game. And the underwater crap was boring as usual. Overall, Inside is a good game that follows in the shadows of Limbo. I found it to be much slower paced, and a bit of drag at times, but it has lots of casual appeal. And some of the deaths are quite gruesome and shouldn't be spoiled. In fact they should've made decapitations the centerpiece of the experience.
