Jet Set Radio Gameplay - Playing It Before Getting Delisted from Steam (Saving the Classics)
The third game of the Dreamcast Collection that I'm showcasing is Jet Set Radio. Unlike Crazy Taxi or SEGA Bass Fishing, this game wasn't an Arcade port, but rather designed straight for the Dreamcast. The recording of this video was made with the Xbox Game Bar.
Here, the player assumes the role of a Skater who makes Graffiti on certain Vehicles and Walls on the streets of a city known as Tokyo-to. However, the Police, led by Captain Onishima, and Rival Gangs are in the way. The former by beating and shooting the player, and the latter by spraying their own Graffiti Tags to "contest the territory" to the player's gang, the GG's. The first playable character is Beat, a teenager from Shibuya-cho, a sector of Tokyo-to, then Gum and Tab join him after completing the Tutorial Section of the Story Mode.
The actual Tutorial of the game is more of a training ground than an actual tutorial, as it only explains how to move forward and then just tells you to do Skating Tricks. Not much helpful or explanatory, but I'll have to try and figure out what to do about it. Concerning the Story Mode, Jet Set Radio is the name of the city's Pirate Radio, run by DJ Professor K, who sort of covers the events as "Breaking News". In the end, I can't provide a better description because I did very bad in my gameplay and couldn't make much progress. Also, I spent a lot of time watching the Documentary that was included in the game's Bonus Content. Since this video pays tribute to the game's legacy, I proceeded to watch it.
I don't know if I'll ever make a series of this game, as I played terribly and I don't really think this game is for me, as I'm not actually a fan of the setting. I see more likely to bring a series of SEGA Bass Fishing in the future instead of this game. But hey, it's a classic nonetheless, and it's still worth preserving, as the gameplay is fun and the Jump Tricks are really cool to watch when performed.
I'll try to bring one more game before the delisting takes effect, although it's late over here.
See you in the next video!
